Carnival Dunk Tank

How it's done

Your child will find their elf perched precariously above a makeshift water-filled bucket, acting as the target for a carnival dunk tank. Use painter’s tape to secure a small board or ledge across the top of a plastic bucket filled with water, and place your elf sitting right on the edge. It takes about twenty minutes to set up this scene, but cleanup is incredibly simple since it only requires emptying the water and tossing the tape. This setup works well for older children who can appreciate the engineering aspect. This creative scene is Inspired by What Moms Love.

Pets in the house?

Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.

Why this works

Living-room scenes are the most photogenic. The Christmas tree, the couch, the mantel all frame the elf beautifully for the family photo you'll actually take (and maybe post). Difficulty 4 is an ambitious scene that rewards the extra effort, the kind of moment kids remember years later.

If it doesn't go to plan

If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
