Elf is Locked Outside
How it's done
Your elf is stuck outside the front door, peering through the glass as if waiting for someone to open it. Simply use a small amount of sticky tack to secure your elf against the door frame. Place a handwritten sign on the glass that says let me in so the children immediately understand the scenario when they head to school. This setup takes five minutes to execute and leaves absolutely no mess for you to clean up later. It is a perfect choice for younger children who might worry about their friend. Inspired by Make the Best of Everything.
Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.
Why this works
Entryway scenes are high-traffic and time-flexible, the elf greets arrivals whether it's 7am breakfast or a 4pm return from school. Difficulty 2 means it uses items you already own and takes about five minutes, quick but visibly intentional.
Variations
- Bigger-kid twist: For an older crowd that sees through simple scenes, step up to Mission Impossible Elf Arrival , same room, cleverer setup.
If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
