Elf Jar of Poop

How it's done

The elf perches on the bathroom counter next to an overturned glass jar of chocolate Maltesers. When kids walk in, they will find the elf looking guilty with a playful sign to explain the potty humor prank. This five minute setup is ideal for older children, but keep the display high if you have pets since chocolate is toxic to dogs. There is no actual mess to scrub, making it a quick win for a busy weeknight. This silly bathroom scene was inspired by A Visual Merriment.

Pets in the house?

Chocolate Maltesers are toxic to dogs.

Why this works

Bathroom scenes lean into universal kid humor (toilets, toothpaste, bubbles). They're memorable, they clean up fast, and they always get a laugh. Difficulty 2 means it uses items you already own and takes about five minutes, quick but visibly intentional.

Variations

  • Pet-safe version: Try Smell Elf's Farts , same idea, but no chocolate, loose candy, or floor-level hazards. Swap the elements that worry you and keep the rest.
  • Bigger-kid twist: For an older crowd that sees through simple scenes, step up to Cereal-Filled Toilet , same room, cleverer setup.

If it doesn't go to plan

If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
