How it's done
When the kids head to the kitchen for breakfast, they will find their scout perched right between the milk and the leftovers. Simply tuck the elf onto a refrigerator shelf and place a small handwritten sign in front of him that says just chilling. This setup takes less than two minutes to arrange, making it a perfect low-effort win for a busy morning. It works well for all ages since there are no small pieces to worry about. Why this works
The kitchen is the first room most kids visit in the morning, for cereal, for milk, for the toaster. An elf scene staged here has the highest odds of being the first thing your child spots and shouts about. At difficulty 1, this scene is specifically designed to be set up in under two minutes. Busy nights are why this one exists.

If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
