Elf Phone
How it's done
Your elf is settled in the bedroom, appearing to catch up on important administrative tasks while holding a miniature paper phone. The elf is propped up against a pillow, looking intently at a custom printed list of direct lines to Santa taped to the wall. This setup is perfect for curious kids aged three to ten who enjoy imaginative play. It takes about fifteen minutes to cut and draw your props, and since there is no actual debris, the cleanup is nonexistent. This simple scene was Inspired by What Moms Love.
Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.
Why this works
Bedroom scenes work best as an evening reveal, kids find the elf when they climb into bed. Bedtime is when a cozy, low-mess scene lands hardest. This mid-difficulty scene trades a little more setup time for a bigger 'wow' moment when your kids walk in.
Variations

If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
