Feeling Flat Laminated Elf
How it's done
This setup turns your home office into a temporary assembly line. You will print out several paper versions of your elf, laminate them, and arrange them so they appear to be sliding out of the laminator. Position your real elf behind the machine as if they are the diligent operator managing the process. Since this project requires only a laminator and paper, it is completely pet-safe and leaves zero mess for you to clean up later. This clever scene was Inspired by A Visual Merriment.
Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.
Why this works
Office scenes modernize the tradition, the elf mirrors the work-from-home life your kids see every day, which makes the magic feel personal. This mid-difficulty scene trades a little more setup time for a bigger 'wow' moment when your kids walk in.
If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
