Flying Slinky

How it's done

Position the metal or plastic slinky across your staircase banister to create a fun, suspended track for your elf. Secure the ends of the slinky with a small piece of clear tape so it stays in place while your elf hangs from the middle coil as if sliding down the railing. This setup is perfect for younger children and takes less than five minutes to assemble before bed. Because the toy is self-contained, cleanup is non-existent and the scene is completely pet-safe. Pets in the house?

Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.

Why this works

Staircase scenes turn the whole flight into a stage. A candy-cane zip line or TP-tube sled uses the geometry of a normal space in a way kids never expect. Difficulty 2 means it uses items you already own and takes about five minutes, quick but visibly intentional.

If it doesn't go to plan

If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
