Fridge Winter Coat
How it's done
When the kids open the refrigerator for milk in the morning, they will find their elf tucked inside next to the carton wearing a simple paper coat. You can quickly cut a small parka shape from construction paper or a coffee filter and secure it with a piece of tape. Why this works

If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
