Hanging Out in the Advent Chains
How it's done
Your elf is caught in a playful tangle while climbing through the holiday countdown. String a paper chain across a doorway or mantle, then loop the elf’s arms through a link so he hangs upside down with a startled expression. This setup is perfect for younger children who enjoy spotting their elf in an unexpected, elevated spot. Since you only need tape and a basic paper chain, it takes under five minutes to assemble and leaves zero cleanup behind. Inspired by Make the Best of Everything.

Why this works
Living-room scenes are the most photogenic. The Christmas tree, the couch, the mantel all frame the elf beautifully for the family photo you'll actually take (and maybe post). Difficulty 2 means it uses items you already own and takes about five minutes, quick but visibly intentional.

If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
