How it's done

Tuck your elf inside a laundry basket or hamper, burying them halfway under a pile of folded clothes or stray socks. When kids head to the laundry room, they will spot their scout peeking out from the fabric as if helping with the household chores. This setup takes less than five minutes to execute and is perfect for children between three and ten years old. Since there is no actual mess involved, it is a low-stress win for busy nights. Pets in the house?

Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.

Why this works

Laundry room scenes play the comedy of chores. The elf caught 'folding' mismatched socks or 'ironing' chips is a scene kids associate with their own daily routine. Difficulty 2 means it uses items you already own and takes about five minutes, quick but visibly intentional.

Variations

If it doesn't go to plan

If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
