Mini Pancakes
How it's done
Your elf is seated at the kitchen table beside a stack of miniature pancakes served on a doll-sized plate. To make the tiny flapjacks, simply use a medicine dropper or a squeeze bottle to pour nickel-sized circles of pancake batter onto a hot skillet. A small pat of butter and a drizzle of syrup finish the look, making it appear as though the elf prepared a gourmet breakfast before the kids woke up. This setup takes about fifteen minutes and is easy to clean, as the mess is limited to a few stray crumbs. This scene is inspired by What Moms Love.

Why this works
The kitchen is the first room most kids visit in the morning, for cereal, for milk, for the toaster. An elf scene staged here has the highest odds of being the first thing your child spots and shouts about. This mid-difficulty scene trades a little more setup time for a bigger 'wow' moment when your kids walk in.

If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
