How it's done
Your elf is sitting on the kitchen counter, looking slightly mischievous while holding a glass filled with vibrant green milk or juice. To pull this off, simply stir a drop of food coloring into a small amount of liquid and place the glass near your elf. It takes less than five minutes to set up and requires zero cleanup beyond washing the glass in the morning. Why this works
The kitchen is the first room most kids visit in the morning, for cereal, for milk, for the toaster. If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
