Numbered Advent Box Calendar

How it's done

Position your elf sitting amidst a stack of miniature gift boxes and colorful gift bags arranged to form a countdown calendar. Each container is labeled with a number, and the elf holds a small ribbon as if they just finished securing the final package. This setup works best if you prepare the boxes in advance, as the assembly process can easily take twenty minutes of your evening. It is a clean, low-stress way to hide the elf while adding a functional advent tradition to your living room. This concept is Inspired by Elf on the Shelf (official).

Pets in the house?

Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.

Why this works

Living-room scenes are the most photogenic. The Christmas tree, the couch, the mantel all frame the elf beautifully for the family photo you'll actually take (and maybe post). Difficulty 4 is an ambitious scene that rewards the extra effort, the kind of moment kids remember years later.

If it doesn't go to plan

If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
