Quarantine Elf in Jar
How it's done
Your elf spends the night sitting inside a clear mason jar, peering out at the room through the glass. You can write a quick note on a scrap of paper that says Quarantine or Rest Period to tape onto the lid. It is a simple way to create a visual break for the elf without creating a mess for you to vacuum later. This setup works best for younger children who enjoy checking on the elf like a patient. This scene is inspired by The Soccer Mom Blog.
Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.
Why this works
This kind of scene isn't tied to one room, it works wherever the elf needs a new home tonight. This mid-difficulty scene trades a little more setup time for a bigger 'wow' moment when your kids walk in.
If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
