Ribbon Doorway Trap
How it's done
Create a quick barrier by taping strands of Christmas ribbon across a bedroom doorway to mimic a secret mission laser grid. Place your elf in the hallway nearby with the roll of tape and a stray ribbon end, looking as if they just finished setting the trap. This setup works well for younger children who will enjoy ducking under the streamers to enter their room. It takes less than five minutes to assemble and involves zero cleanup the next morning. Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.
Why this works
Bedroom scenes work best as an evening reveal, kids find the elf when they climb into bed. Bedtime is when a cozy, low-mess scene lands hardest. Difficulty 2 means it uses items you already own and takes about five minutes, quick but visibly intentional.
Variations
- Bigger-kid twist: For an older crowd that sees through simple scenes, step up to Balloon Door Crepe Blockade , same room, cleverer setup.
If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
