Ride a Zipline

Living Room Difficulty ●●●●○ Messiness ●○○○○ Ages 4–10

How it's done

Your elf is captured in a high speed descent, hanging mid air from a fishing line stretched across the living room. You will need to anchor the string securely at two high points, then use a bent paperclip as a hook to let your elf slide into position. This setup is perfect for elementary aged children who will love seeing their scout in action, though it requires at least twenty minutes of focused prep time. Since there is no mess to clean up, it is a low stress choice if you have the right supplies on hand. This scene was Inspired by MyKidsTime.

Pets in the house?

Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.

Why this works

Living-room scenes are the most photogenic. The Christmas tree, the couch, the mantel all frame the elf beautifully for the family photo you'll actually take (and maybe post). Difficulty 4 is an ambitious scene that rewards the extra effort, the kind of moment kids remember years later.

If it doesn't go to plan

If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
