Shoe or Slipper Hide
How it's done
Your elf is playing a simple game of hide and seek by wedging itself deep inside a family member's house slipper or favorite sneaker. When the children walk into the entryway, they will see only the top of the elf head peeking out from the footwear. This setup takes less than five minutes to arrange before you head to bed. Why this works

If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
