Snow Angel Arrival
How it's done
For this arrival scene, your elf lies flat on a baking tray filled with a thin layer of powdered sugar. By moving their arms and legs through the powder, the elf creates a clear snow angel impression for your children to find the moment they walk through the entryway. This setup works well for kids between three and ten years old because it is visually distinct and easy to understand. You can use cotton balls as a mess-free alternative to sugar if you prefer a quicker cleanup. Inspired by Ashlina Kaposta.
Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.
Why this works
Entryway scenes are high-traffic and time-flexible, the elf greets arrivals whether it's 7am breakfast or a 4pm return from school. Difficulty 2 means it uses items you already own and takes about five minutes, quick but visibly intentional.

If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
