Stuck Outside Patio Door
How it's done
Place your elf outside against the sliding glass door so it looks like they are stranded after a late-night adventure. Use a bit of washable window marker or white snow spray to draw little footprints leading up to the glass from the yard. Tape a small handwritten note to the exterior that begs the kids to let them back inside. This setup works best for younger children who will love the urgency of the rescue mission. Since the mess is minimal, clean up takes less than two minutes the next morning. This scene is Inspired by MyKidsTime.
Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.
Why this works
Outdoor scenes are the rare ones kids don't forget, snow angels, window peeks, mailbox surprises. Weather-dependent, high impact. This mid-difficulty scene trades a little more setup time for a bigger 'wow' moment when your kids walk in.
If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
