Toasty Elf
How it's done
Your kids will find the elf tucked into the kitchen toaster with his arms peeking out of the slots. It is a silly way to show him warming up after a long flight. Place a small sign reading Toasty Inside next to the toaster to finish the scene. This setup takes under two minutes and requires zero cleanup in the morning. This clever idea was inspired by Ashlina Kaposta and stays safely out of reach for pets, working well for children aged three to ten.
Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.
Why this works
The kitchen is the first room most kids visit in the morning, for cereal, for milk, for the toaster. An elf scene staged here has the highest odds of being the first thing your child spots and shouts about. At difficulty 1, this scene is specifically designed to be set up in under two minutes. Busy nights are why this one exists.

If it doesn't go to plan
If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
