How it's done

Your elf is resting on the kitchen counter or inside the fridge, looking like a shiny holiday leftover. Simply tear off a sheet of aluminum foil and wrap his body snugly from head to toe, leaving just his face peeking out. This is a perfect last minute setup for exhausted parents because it takes less than two minutes to assemble and creates absolutely no mess to clean up in the morning. It works best for younger children who will get a kick out of the metallic disguise. Inspired by Make the Best of Everything.

Pets in the house?

Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.

Why this works

The kitchen is the first room most kids visit in the morning, for cereal, for milk, for the toaster. An elf scene staged here has the highest odds of being the first thing your child spots and shouts about. At difficulty 1, this scene is specifically designed to be set up in under two minutes. Busy nights are why this one exists.

Variations

  • Bigger-kid twist: For an older crowd that sees through simple scenes, step up to Buddy Four Food Groups , same room, cleverer setup.

If it doesn't go to plan

If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
