How it's done

Simply tear off a sheet of aluminum foil and wrap his body snugly from head to toe, leaving just his face peeking out. This is a perfect last minute setup for exhausted parents because it takes less than two minutes to assemble and creates absolutely no mess to clean up in the morning. If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy"), the discovery is the point.
